Birthday Present

BIRTHDAY PRESENT!!!!!!?
My friend’s birthday is tomorrow and I don’t know what to get her. She is turning 12. She is six days younger than me.
She likes:
horses
dogs
clothes
sea-foam green [as far as i know]
the emo song
Her name is Maya.
I haven’t seen her in a long time so i don’t know her interests as much as i used to. She is more girly than she used to be.
Well.. she’s six days younger than you, and she’s your friend. ![]()
I’ll try and suggest some presents but I’m not sure..
Ask her or her Mom what size she is, maybe get her a shirt or something from one of your favorite stores that would look good on her. If she doens’t like it always include a gift reciept and tell her to feel free to exchange it and that you want her be happy.
I wouldn’t suggest anything horses or dogs. Those sort of things are tacky. But I might also suggest getting her a pet? You say she likes animals.. maybe get her an inexpensive gold fish, or hamster, or lizard. That would be really neat. But ask her Mom first and make sure it’s alright.
If all else fails. Maybe a gift card from her fav clothing store. Or Target.

Action! $108.44 What do you do when your oldest friend, Steve McQueen, pulls out his Smith & Wesson and blows your defenseless dining-room chair to smithereens? Or when your hottest client, sex goddess Romy Schneider, demands you leave your wife for her? Those are just a couple of the dilemmas faced by AJ Jastrow, the fictional protagonist of Action!, Robert Cort’s page-turning saga about a legendary Hollywood family. When we first meet AJ in 1948, a few weeks shy of his thirteenth birthday, he ranks as minor Hollywood royalty–Dad is the movie industry’s most prominent attorney, Mom is a retired actress whose uncle is Adolph Zukor, founder of Paramount. But this year will prove to be the end of the movie industry’s Golden Age and the beginning of exile for the Jastrow family. When AJ returns to Tinseltown after a decade’s absence, he realizes that fulfilling his father’s legacy of creating a movie empire will prove a life’s work. Along the way, AJ’s soldiers-in-arms include the Machiavellian producer Ray Stark, who teaches him how to win at Monopoly and studio politics; Wall Street genius Charlie Bluhdorn, who coaxes AJ to fly under the radar on a secret mission; AJ’s wife, Stephanie, who reminds him that a conscience isn’t a luxury; and his daughter and protegee, Jessica, who refuses to leave his side despite irresistible temptation. His enemies are formidable: studio president Paul Herzog, who seeks to destroy the son as he did the father; the wily agent Mike Ovitz, who intuits the weaknesses of any rival; AJ’s mother, Hollywood’s wealthiest woman, who cannot abide disloyalty; and AJ’s son, Ricky, an actor of uncommon ability, who holds a devastating grudge against his dad. Byblending and transforming fact into fiction, by introducing real characters to fictional ones, Robert Cort gives the reader an inside account of Hollywood’s path (and drift) from the end of World War II to the present. And utilizing his insider’s knowledge, gained as one of the town’s premi |

Anglo-Latin and Its Heritage: Essays in Honour of A.G. Rigg on His 64th Birthday $90.58 For some 40 years, A.G. Rigg has been defining the field of later Anglo-Latin scholarship, a task culminating in his History of Anglo-Latin Literature 1066-1422. Anglo-Latin and its Heritage is a collection of thirteen essays by his colleagues and students, past and present, which pays tribute to him both by exploring the field he has defined, and by making forays into its antecedents and descendants. The first section, Roots and Debts, includes essays on the migration of classical and late antique motifs and patterns of thought into early medieval Latin, and concludes with an essay which shows how a twelfth-century writer reached back into that earlier period for stylistic models. The central section of the book, Anglo-Latin Literature 1066-1422, concentrates on Anglo-Latin writers of the period most studied by Rigg himself, and the seven essays in this section include analyses of poetic style and borrowing; discussions of patterns of reading; and essays which read Anglo-Latin works through their specific historical and cultural contexts. Two of the essays are elegant translations of significant Anglo-Latin poetic works. The final section of the book, Influence and Survival, offers three essays which consider Anglo-Latin literature in the late medieval and post-medieval world, from an edition of a Latin source for a late Middle English saint’s life; through an account of the migration of Latin texts into the royal libraries of Henry VIII; to the concluding essay, which explores a mechanical means of producing perfect Latin hexameter. A complete bibliography of Rigg’s works closes the volume. The chronological and methodological range of the essays in this collection is offered as afitting tribute to one of Anglo-Latin’s most learned and indefatigable scholars. |

Biographies and Autobiographies in Modern Italy: A Festschrift for John Woodhouse $163.35 Critical interest in biography and autobiography has never been higher. However, while life-writing flourishes in the UK, in Italy it is a less prominent genre. The twelve essays collected here are written against this backdrop, and address issues in biographical and autobiographical writing in Italy from the later nineteenth century to the present, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between individual lives and life-writing and the wider social and political history of Italy. The majority of essays focus on well-known writers (D’Annunzio, Svevo, Bontempelli, Montale, Levi, Calvino, Eco and Fallaci), and their varying anxieties about autobiographical writing in their work. This picture is rounded out by a series of studies of similar themes in lesser known figures: the critic Enrico Nencioni, the Welsh-Italian painter Llewellyn Lloyd and Italian writers and journalists covering the Spanish Civil War. The contributors, all specialists in their fields, are Antonella Braida, Charles Burdett, Jane Everson, John Gatt Rutter, Robert Gordon, Gwyn Griffith, Peter Hainsworth, Martin McLaughlin, Gianni Oliva, Giuliana Pieri, and Jon Usher. The volume is dedicated to John Woodhouse, on his seventieth birthday, and concludes with a bibliography of his writings. |

Cars: Business Art $23.66 In 1986, on the 100th birthday of the automobile, the Daimler-Chrysler enterprise commissioned the Pop Art icon Andy Warhol to do a series of 80 car pictures which were to document the history of the automobile from 1886 to the present. Using 20 selected Mercedes models–including the Daimler motor coach and the Benz patent motor wagon–35 pictures and 12 large-format paintings were executed in 1986/87, becoming the last series produced by the artist. The large-format picture book at hand presents the works in total and, with other commissioned works, further explores the many-faceted subject of Business Art. The works include a co-operation between Robert Longo and DaimlerChrysler that yielded a series of black-and-white portraits of Mercedes-Benz models. With her signature watercolors of persons and products from the enterprise, Simone Westerwinter created a radically new form of portrait. Mathis Neidhart is working at a dialectic approach of conveying the brand-name philosophy of DaimlerChrysler with art-specific questions. Interviews with contemporary artists such as John Armleder, Jeff Koons, Robert Longo and Sarah Morris serve to expand on the subject matter of the book. |
